Landscape lighting in Orange County

See your yard lit before you decide

We design and install low-voltage lighting for paths, trees, walls and patios. Before anything is trenched, we set a few fixtures at dusk so you can judge the light on your own yard.

Demo nights

What a night demo shows you

We photograph each demo once the lights are on, so you can judge the glow, the spill and the shadows from where you will actually stand.

What we light

Six places a yard needs light

Most systems are a few fixtures and a lot of shadow. These are the places we start.

  • Paths and steps

Low fixtures at the edge of a walk, and light in the stair treads, so each step shows without glare.

  • Trees and shrubs

Uplights at the base, or fixtures in the canopy aimed down, chosen by the tree and by what you see from inside.

  • Walls and house fronts

Light raked across stone and stucco, and a wash on the entry, aimed to stay off the neighbor's windows.

  • Patios and kitchens

Step lights, strips under a rail and a few warm points over the table, dim enough to talk by.

  • Gate, drive and entry

Light at the gate and the drive edge, so a guest finds the door and you find your keys.

  • Timers and control

A dusk sensor, a timer or a phone app, so the yard turns on without you.

The night demo

A demo, start to finish

You see the light before you pay for it. Nothing is trenched or cut.

  1. 01

Step 1: We walk the yard at dusk

Someone from the crew comes before sunset, walks the paths and the front with you, and finds the outlet and the sprinkler lines.

  2. 02

Step 2: We place a few fixtures

Temporary fixtures go on a tree, the stair wall and the entry, wired to a portable transformer.

  3. 03

Step 3: We switch them on at dark

You walk the yard with us, and we move a fixture a few feet or change its angle while you watch.

  4. 04

Step 4: You get the estimate in writing

A list of fixtures, transformer, cable runs and trenching, with a price on each part. You decide at your own pace.

Pricing

What moves the price

A lighting job is priced from a list. These are the parts of it, in the order people ask.

  • What decides the price

Most of the number is fixtures, power and cable. The same yard costs very differently depending on how many points of light you want.

    • How many fixtures, and what each one does

    • Fixture material and finish: composite, aluminum or brass

    • Transformer size, and how many zones it runs

    • Cable length, and trenching through soil, planters, pavers or concrete

    • Controls: dusk sensor, timer or app

    • Access, slope and mature tree roots

  • What the estimate includes, and what it doesn't

One line for each fixture, the transformer, the cable and the controls, then labor and cleanup.

    • Included: fixture list with locations, transformer, cable runs, trenching, controls, labor, cleanup

    • Not included: a new outdoor outlet or panel work, unless the estimate lists it

    • Not included: permit or HOA fees, unless the estimate lists them

  • What happens at the visit

The demo is a visit after dusk. We set temporary fixtures, you see them lit, and we write down what you like. Ask what the demo costs when you book; we tell you before we come.

  • When you get the number

In writing, after the demo, as a list with a price on each part. We don't quote a total from a photo or over the phone.

  • How and when you pay

A deposit for fixtures and materials books the install, and the balance is due after we walk the lit yard with you. The estimate states each amount and the payment methods we take.

  • Fixtures, and who picks them

We recommend a fixture for each spot and show you the options at the demo. If you choose a different finish, the estimate shows the difference as its own line.

No total is listed here because none is true for every yard. Every price is on your written estimate.

The crew

Who comes to the demo

A small crew: the owner designs each system, and the installers who wire it are the ones you meet at dusk.

  • Edgardo Tolentino

    Owner and lighting designer

Designs every system and leads the night demos.

  • Stephany Ulloa

    Installation lead

Runs the install crew and the trenching.

  • Hamish Lockwood

    Installer

Sets fixtures and aims them after dark.

After the install

What people wrote about the light

“They put four fixtures on the oak and the stair wall at dusk before I agreed to anything. Moving two of them a few feet changed the whole front yard.”

Carla Y.Laguna Beach

“The estimate listed every fixture, the transformer and where the cable would run. One line said the trench would cross the driveway edge, so we talked about it before the crew came.”

Nhung A.Tustin

“The crew set the timer from dusk to eleven and showed my husband how to change it on his phone. We asked for one more fixture the next spring and they added it.”

Questions about the demo and the work

What does a night demo cost?

Ask when you book. We tell you whether the demo has a fee, and whether it is credited toward the job, before we come out.

How long does an install take?

Most front-yard systems are wired in a day or two once the fixtures are on site. A large yard with long cable runs takes longer. The estimate gives a start window and a finish window.

Do you need me home?

For the demo, yes: you judge the light. For the install, we need access to the yard, to an outdoor outlet and to the sprinkler controller if one is near the cable route.

What about rain?

A drizzle doesn't stop a demo, and the fixtures are made for wet ground. We reschedule for a hard rain, or for a day the trench would turn to mud.

Will the lights bother my neighbors?

We aim fixtures at the tree, the wall or the path, not outward, and we show you the spill at the demo. Some cities and HOAs set rules for exterior lighting, so check yours.

Can I add fixtures later?

Usually. We size the transformer with room to spare and note its spare capacity on your estimate.
